Voodoo Six + Exodus Calling + Soley Mourning @ The Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton - 1st December 2011 posted 3 Dec 2011 06:46 by Jason G [updated 3 Dec 2011 06:53]
Review by Andy Boden
Fighting out of London, Voodoo Six have been around since 2003, appearing at major Festivals and playing numerous headline tours along the way. Their second album – ‘Fluke?’ – is a masterclass in powerful, intelligent hard rock, delivered in an uncompromising fashion but with guile and finesse. This, along with all six tracks from their most excellent EP ‘Falling Knives’ – forms the basis of their set, over an hour of tight, gutsy, powerhouse melodic rock. Frontman Luke Purdie prowls and scowls with enormous presence, whilst, in stark contrast, Chris Jones beams and grins throughout. With soulful, blues infused tracks such as ‘No Friend Of Mine’ sitting side by side with high impact songs such as ‘Take The Blame’, there is a swagger, a confidence, a knowledge that they are at the top of their game, but at no time does it come across as arrogant. Voodoo Six follow in a tradition of groundbreaking British bands who continue to lead the way when it comes to producing top class music that, on the one hand, sounds like no other band, but on the other, sounds like it has been with you for ever. ‘Falling Knives’ could – and should - prove to be their biggest success to date and thus usurp the tremendous success of ‘Fluke?’. On the strength of tonight’s performance, be prepared to see V6 on the bigger stages at venues near you soon! Setlist: Like The Others Did, Falling Knives, No Friend Of Mine, Take Aim, Feed My Soul, Live Again, Something For You, Stop, Take The Blame, Sharp Sand, Doing Me Wrong, Long Way From Home.
